My name is Manuela and I am 40 years old.

When I posed for this shot, my body hosted an unattended guest. It was not the first time. I’ve just received one ten years before and his passage changed my life. His name was cancer and he lived in my right breast. It brought me a surgery, several days of chemo, radiotherapy and many collateral effects. My life completely changed after  his passage and I learnt that different doesn’t always mean worse. After the cure, I started to work as a psychology in the Oncology Department of my city’s hospital. I meet women like me who have struggled for illness and I walk with them through a path I already did and that gave me a new life.

Instead, the unattended guest in the photo is Daniele and he was born some month after the shot.

He’s the little miracle of my life.
